After reading Lauren's blog on Lukewarm Christianity, I decided I needed to read Crazy Love for myself. As part of the first chapter the author Francis Chan, directs the reader to his website to view a video -it starts with a view of some mountains and then zooms away until the earth is just a dot, then zooms away even further until our solar system is just a dot, and even further until finally our universe is so small it isn't even a dot. It's hard for me to comprehend that there is so much more to creation beyond what we can see (and a million light years is just mind-boggling). So I decided to make my own list of God's awesome deeds. Here are some that come to mind:
Life on planet Earth
- First, He has placed our planet in the perfect orbit of our sun for us to receive the right amount of heat to sustain life - not too hot and not too cold.
- Light and warmth - by causing the earth to spin, God solved the problem of providing light and warmth for all earth's inhabitants. If we were not spinning, half the world would be in frozen darkness, while the other half would be baked beyond a crisp by blinding, scorching sunlight.
- Gravity - even though the world is spinning through space, I am able to sit here on my couch without fear of flying off into space.
- Air - when I breathe, I need oxygen (and a few other things). At the same time, the plants that grow on our planet require carbon-dioxide. Not only did God create the symbiosis that allows all living things to live, but He encapsulates these gases with an invisible atmosphere to keep them from drifting out into space.
The human body:
- When God created us, He gave us a skin to protect us. And He embedded in our skin, instructions for repair. If we cut ourselves, the body knows to first bleed to clean the wound, then clot to stop the bleeding, then scab to seal the wound and finally new skin is generated - all of this without our having to think about it!
- In order to live, there are things that need to happen to my body - among other things, my cells need oxygen, and energy. God designed the human body so that we take in air, that is picked up by the blood in our body and carried to the cells. When we eat, the food that we eat is turned into energy that is picked up by the blood and carried to the cells. All of this happens without my having to think about making my heart beat, my lungs inflate/deflate, or my digestive system to process the food I eat - all of this happens automatically as long as I am alive and healthy.
And finally, the most awe-inspiring work of God that I have personally experienced:
- Watching through the weeks and months (by way of the ultrasounds) as God formed our daughter's body. Eyes and nose, mouth and ears; arms and legs then hands and feet and finally fingers and toes. Before she was born, everything was complete!
These are just a few of the infinitesimal things God has done. What are some things that come to mind when you consider God? If you want to blog about it - just leave me a comment.

Hello Shona Christine,
Great post!
The sunrise and the moon rise every day delights me and gives me great joy. I love the changing seasons our God has given us. How great He is; looking forward to the changing seasons is so exciting. Different places on the earth have such diverse weather patterns, also. The beautiful land formations throughout the earth are awesome! Such variety for us to enjoy and satisfy our souls…yes, God is GOOD!
